Spirit of the Wolf Amuri Morris
Oil on canvas
24" x 30"
In a mystical forest where reality and dreams intertwined, a woman in a flowing blue dress sat with a basket of apples, her eyes reflecting wisdom beyond her years. On her side was the presence of a wolf, its eyes still fierce, as if guarding her from unseen dangers. Behind her, a portal shimmered, revealing a city engulfed in flames, a stark contrast to the serene woods. She was the guardian of balance, tasked with maintaining harmony between the worlds, her presence a beacon of hope amidst chaos. “Spirit of the Wolf” thinks about the intersectional adversities of black women. Here she challenges that infantilized role of the female fairytale protagonist. Upon careful observation, this Little Red Riding Hood has conquered her own challenger which speaks much to the energies and perseverance of black women.
